Leather Training Launched
The Center for Accelerated Women’s Economic Empowerment (CAWEE) implementing the project of the Office of the First Lady “Connecting 1,500 Women and Young Girls to the Export Market” has continued working targeting different sectors.
The training on the leather sector started on January 18, 2016, at the Entoto Technical and Vocational Education
Training (TVET) involving twenty five (25) women. Tailor-made training curriculum is developed by the Leather Industries Development Institute (LIDI), which includes both theoretical and practical sessions, where trainees are expected to get basic knowledge on leather design, cutting, sewing and all other basic knowledge related to the production of fashion accessories and give away items. The training is designed for four months, where trainers are assigned both from LIDI and Entoto TVET.
CAWEE being the lead implementing organization, the project has been brought into existence through the support and cooperation of donors, various governmental and non-government entities. While the Office of the First Lady is the owner of the project, the Government of Japan has grated equipment support and World Vision Ethiopia has provided funding to conduct the technical skills training.
Entoto Beth Artisan, a social enterprise and project partner company, has shown its willingness in supporting this project, mainly in providing full time employment opportunity for the trainees, once the training program is completed.
