Addis Ababa and Baherdar gemstone training site of the Office of the First Lady of Ethiopia that focused on the project “Connecting 1,500 Women and Young Girls to the Export Market” was visited DFATD funded on Monday and Thursday, February 15, 2016 and February 18, 2016 by Canadian team Kati Csaba – Director for the Development Section, Kelly Thompson – Senior
Development Officer , Jason Schmaltz – International Development Officer, Selamawit Enna – Development Officer and Jerusalem Berhanu – Program Advisor Private Sector Development from ECCO ( Ethio- Canada Cooperation office and Nigest Haile, the Executive Director of the Center for Accelerated Women’s Economic Empowerment (CAWEE), which is the project’s executing organization.
After the visit of the project, the guests had conversation with the gemstone trainees in Addis Ababa and Baherdar on the status of the training, production capacity and market availability. During this visit, CAWEE handed over the gemstones catalogue, that was prepared by CAWEE, to the Embassy of Canada. Following the visit at the Federal Micro and Small Enterprise Development Agency workshop, the team went to visit Entoto Beth Artisan’s production facility and shop.
